St. Johns Parade Update

Ahoy mateys!

I'm posting this update to the Portlandia blog, but future updates will be by email list only, so if you're interested in the parade and have not already done so, please email me at pure.maxton@gmail.com to let me know you want to be on the list.

We're now a week away from the St. Johns parade. Those of you who've marched this event before know that it's very casual, so little planning is necessary. That said, those of you who were with us last year also know that we missed out on the judging because we weren't at the staging area in time. It's been suggested by veteran marchers that we get there early (suggestions have ranged from 8am, which simply ain't gonna happen, to 10am, which seems a little more reasonable) in order to get a good spot in the parade.

The suggestion last year was for us to do a tailgate brunch party at the staging area, so that we can get there on time and have something to do while we wait. I like that idea. So I'm asking everyone to do there best to park close to the staging area (see map link below) and bring something to share with the group for brunch. I plan to bring a camp stove and make bacon. I will also attempt to secure coffee, but will defer to someone else on this list if they have a reliable plan for getting us coffee. Everybody please plan on bringing some brunchy grub to share.

Please also bring camp chairs, transportable camp tables, and whatever else you need (rum) to be comfortable (rum) for a few hours of waiting around (rum). Perhaps we can have a game of Morgan's Revenge or Shut the Box going (rum). Whatever you think; it's up to you to have what you need to keep from complaining (rum).

After the parade there is the St. Johns Bizarre festival, which has been fun in the past. We MAY also open up Castaway Cove for an after-party, but that's TBD.

Happy Marching!
